JAMIE T | Bowery Show, After Party, Interview

jamie-t_reminder.jpg

Jamie T is coming back to the US with his band The Pacemakers. He has no problem switching up his songs to fit the occasion. He may grace the stage solo with his acoustic guitar at some point this tour but expect a more ferocious and rowdy version of his songs with a full band.

Come to the show at Bowery on Thursday. The rising Brooklyn band High Places is opening. Immediately following the show, swing by the After Party at Loreley (7 Rivington Street btw Bowery & Chrystie) because we will be DJing.

Also, Jamie T joined us on Product Shop NYC Blog Radio the last time he was in town and we have posted a part of that interview below.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN | Tour Sells Out, Magic Leaks

Yesterday morning, Springsteen's four area shows sold out in ten minutes. The tour is in support of Magic, which leaked this weak.

While I loved We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, I find Devils & Dust and The Rising to be flawed but strong records and like his last two proper records, Magic has its dose of sub-par AOR-filler, but it also includes some moments of true brilliance.

The first standout tracks are "Livin' In The Future," which easily could pass for an outtake from The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. The sax is smoking. The groove is undeniable. And Bruce's vocal sound as energetic and youthful as ever.

The other standout is "Terry's Song," a song that seems inspired by the Seeger Sessions and was written for the late Terry Magovern, whom was Bruce's assistant for the past 23 years. Here's part of Bruce's eulogy for Terry:

I first met Terry in 1972. I'd just returned from California after an unsuccessful attempt to live as a musician in the Bay Area. Steve's band, the Sundance Blues Band, were booked at the Captain's Garter in Neptune, New Jersey. I sat in with Steve and we played to a packed and cheering crowd. This was a job we needed, bad. I was broke. After the show, sweaty and triumphant, Steve and I went back to meet the manager of the place, figuring we were this guy's dream come true. There behind the desk, windbreaker on, stood a large and not very friendly light-haired man. He explained slowly and carefully, that yes, while the crowd was large and loud, that no one was drinking. They were too busy listening to the music, and if we hadn't noticed this was a bar, therefore, our services in the future would not be necessary. This was my first introduction to the clear, hard headed thinking of Terry Magovern. He fired me! It was the beginning of a long and beautiful relationship.
