Were You There? Roseland, NYC, Oct/Nov 1994 (Pavement, The Offspring, Dinasour Jr, Candlebox)

Roseland_October_12_1994.jpg
The Roseland was rocking in October and November of 1994. Shows included Pavement with opening acts Guided By Voices and David Kilgour! The Flaming Lips opening for Candlebox?!? Dinasour Jr with Kyuss (Josh Homme's pre-Queens of the Stone Age band) and The Offspring touring behind their mammoth album Smash with Rancid opening.

I was at three of these four shows. One of them is in my top ten concerts of all time (Pavement) and another them is one of the worst concerts I've ever seen (Dinasour Jr on a very, very off night).

As a bonus, here's the concert announcement for when the Pavement, Guided By Voices and David Kilgour show...

Were You There? The Prince of Wales Conference Centre, London, August 2-5, 1979 (Joy Division, etc)

This concert poster appeared in the NME on July 28, 1979 (David Byrne was on the cover for a feature on the Talking Heads Europeon tour). This four-day mini-festival of up-and-coming bands was essentially in the basement of the London YMCA and featured such soon-to-be-legends as Joy Division, Throbbing Gristle, Red Crayola, Cabaret Voltaire, The Teardrop Explodes, Scritti Politti and the (plus one more to be added) on August 2nd ended up being Echo and The Bunnymen.

Were You There? Arcade Fire, Mercury Lounge, New York, October 13, 2004

arcade_fire_mercury_lounge.jpg
Stereogum, Gothamist and Brooklyn Vegan were in the crowd when The Arcade Fire played a now-legendary CMJ showcase at the Mercury Lounge, which undoubtably helped launch them into stardom.

The old Product Shop NYC had a review of the show, but we - stupidly - deleted all our old entries before we relaunched in January of this year.

Also, notice that the Merc was hosting shows by Sufjan Stevens, Explosions in the Sky, The Thermals, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Greenhornes, Dead Meadow and, of course, Flickerstick.
