Sadly, it seems that South Africa is a target....
The alleged al-Qaida leader accused of plotting to attack next month's football World Cup in South Africa claims he had merely sketched notes for the idea and given them to a senior Iraqi militant, but had not heard back from him.Abdullah Azzam Salih Misfar said his plans had not progressed past a wishlist phase and stemmed from ongoing attempts to find a way to punish Denmark for the publication by a Danish cartoonist two years ago of images of the prophet Muhammad. "It was only an idea to blow up the World Cup in South Africa," Saudi-born Misfar said in an interview in Baghdad today. "I wrote the idea and sent it to Abu Hamza."
Hamza, a senior al-Qaida leader in Iraq who was also known as Abu Ayub al-Masri, was killed last month. "It was relayed through other men, but I didn't get a reply," Misfar said.
Misfar's comments appear to have poured cold water over a major security scare on the eve of the World Cup.
Iraqi security chiefs made the shock claim that Misfar planned to target the World Cup in a press conference in Baghdad yesterday, leading to frantic phone calls from South African organisers.
Planning was said to have gone as high as the world's second most wanted man, al-Qaida deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Nice zinger Sven! And how unique, as the Bears always are, hiring a line coach before the coordinator so the new offensive leader cant hire the coaches hes most comfortable with. They probably want Tice as a fallback if no one else will take the job. Im being serious about that.

Simply put, the social function of new media is the same as media has always been. It has just leveraged new technologies to make it cheaper so more people can access it. It really is not different from Henry T Ford making mass produced cars just like Tata are doing in India today. Print is relatively expensive but will exist as long as it has a social function because it can be read without a gadget and can be disposable on travels. I prefer a book to an iPad of I am on a long travel because it functions better and is cheaper.

Good Program, I just hope and pray we can recover this meltdown. After watching, I confirmed that the laws that were in place prior to Enron, that were removed as Modernization, De-regulation and get the government off our backs were the root cause to this meltdown. The present crop of politicians had dim memories of the 1932 reasons the laws were implemented to begin with, to protect citizens from the likes of Ken Lay and the CEOs who award themselves bonuses with stock options from my IRA account.I am not sure what I can do, but I hope everyone in Washington watches this program.

Yeah they are older but they wont be playing too much or trying too hard during the regular season. Theyll be the freshest players come play-off time and likely the healthiest. They have filled in all of their weaknesses through free-agency which was most notably their post weakness. With both ONeals, Perkins and KG to clog the paint things should be tighter on defense than ever. Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rondo are still great wing-defenders.

The owners OWN the business. This is america they can make as much money as they can. The players are employees of that business. Im sure you workyou get paid what the owner of your company is willing to pay and Im sure that owner makes WAY more % of money than the NFL owner does. This is no different than any company in the world thats out to make maximum profits. The players want more money? Have them start their own league and take the risks/debts the owners have then they can get whatever the market is willing to pay for their product.

Im so glad that PBS made a program on this topic. If there were more documentaries on financial issues like this, Americans might not be so sadly undereducated in financial matters.
Posted on September 26, 2011 3:35 PM
The program was entertaining, but many claims made were misleading at best and many statements and claims were simply false. For example, the statment that the Chinese savers financed the USAs current account deficit is hogwash. I ask you: how many Yuan a year does the US government spend? The answer: zero. This is what really happens: The USA has a horrendous trade deficit with China, due only to Chinas 7 yuan to the dollar peg. The exchange rate makes imports extremely expensive (to China) and exports cheap. Chinese companies make profits in US Dollars from their exports. They cant spend US dollars in China, so they go to the Chinese central banks, and convert some (most) of the US Dollars to Yuan to spend at home. This mechanism has absolutely nothing to do with the Chinese savings rate. US Dollars pile up in foreign central banks (of which China, due to its large trade imbalance, is a major one). The Chinese government does not back their currency with any precious metals, so they just go to their printing press and generate the Yuan tospend at home, which they hand over to the companies doing exports. The US Dollars pile up in the Chinese central banks, and theres not much they can do with the bulk of these credit dollars. They can buy some things like Oil and some commodities, since the US Dollar is in very wide spread use, at least now. The chinese government invests some of the trade deficit dollars by buying US government bonds. The mechanism is completely independent of whether the Chinese worker saves or not. You see, in China, there is no 401K plan, IRA or other retirement vehicle. Many of the old employment for life state run companies that promised life long pensions, were run out of business. In China, if you dont save, youll starve when you retire. And many of their parents or grandparents are now being taken care of by children or grandchildren, since their old state pensions disappeared. There is no safety net in China. The savings is all most of the workers have. That said, its not some wonderful brilliant thing that Chinese do, they have no choice. Your claim that somehow the Chinese save money, and its sent here to the USA to fund spending is just false, an impossibility.

I didnt say that the cost of labor was a driving factor because Im aware that many take that sort of comment negatively. They would rather find blame with other things than admit our workers get paid too much to allow their companies to compete with companies operating in low wage countries. Anyway, theres not a lot we can do about wages, short of getting rid of the unions., so we just have to try to be competitive by focusing our attention on other factors like productivity, innovation, taxes, quality, responsiveness, reliability, etc. Thanks.

Gandhi abandoned European clothes and wore simple Indian dress. He took up spinning. Indians had been required to buy cloth made in Britain. The cotton was grown in India but it was shipped to England and made into cloth, then shipped back to India. Gandhi held mass demonstrations in which European-style clothes and cloth brought from England were burned. The spinning wheel became a symbol of liberation—the wheel of life and a sign of God, with no beginning and no end.

I work with small businesses every day that use the technology from the past 20 years to be more productive and efficient. As an example, the advent of the internet, broadband connections, and wireless technology have provided the following advances:1.) Bail Bond agents that have the ability to look at case files from their cell phones or laptops while in the field.2.) Print shops have the ability to pull up a proof from years ago with a few clicks as opposed to traipsing to the file cabinet and searching through scores of old paper copies.3.) I and many of my clients have the ability to email an invoice and accept credit/debit card payments online. This saves me money on postage and the time for traditional mail.4.) Police officers that can look up information in their cruisers, in the field.5.) Doctors, Chiropractors, and Dentists that can pull up medical records in a fraction of the time. Evaluating your previous prescriptions, x-rays, allergies, and much more.6.) Automated backup systems for businesses to keep their records redundantly stored off-site. This has helped virtually all my clients protect their data from fire, theft, and natural disasters.

Another question I have: From accounts of the contract agreement that allowed performances to resume, it appears as though the Friends had expected to raise $150k per year to essentially pay for 2 weeks of work for the orchestra. What the news accounts did not get into is if the players are responsible for working the services if the FOJS have not successfully raised the full 100% of the $150k or if services will be scaled to accommodate the actual amount that is to be paid.

I love the way he (Nobama)keeps telling everyone that the money is to save jobs. They are all public (govt. employee) jobs that he is saving. None are private sector jobs. The only thing he is trying to save is his voter base and he is doing it on the backs of the private sector.A very large % of the stimulus money that WI recd went to prop up the teachers their retirements and the union.

One of the things I would like to see this new administration do is inspire the Children, parents and the kids in the schools in these neighborhoods to volunteer in great numbers to get out there in the streets and to make a crusading and voluntary effort to clean them up. And the best way to start in is with the glass and debris. You dont need a lot of cash to do that. But a lot of concerned parents, goodwill, a host of volunteers, (a Martin Luther King spirit), and some well marked Clean Up Our City! trash barrels and volunteer Pride trucks to haul the stuff away to the nearest proper dump site instead of leaving it in the vacant lot next door as is so often seen. Only then, will a real Renaissance begin from the bottom up. And its long overdue. You do that, put that on the National Media, and the rest of the country will be on your side, and demand better schools and facilities for those in need. God helps those who help themselves, is the fitting Proverb in this instance.

I hope you are right about the recovery but I have my doubts. If you take all the money being dumped into the economy by the Feds and subtract that from the small gains we have seen you have to conclude that things are actually getting worse. Without the artificial uptick from the stimulus there is no net gain.

John Henry Johnson made the '78 A's rotation out of spring training at age 21, without having pitched above class A. He threw 6 scoreless IP to win his debut, a 1-0 game. He allowed 1 run in 6.2 IP his second game. Then he threw a shutout in his 3rd game; a 4-hit CG win in his 5th game; and a 3-hit shutout in his 8th game.

Losing Clark will destroy our defense?! Like it did last year? Our pass defense was statistically better after Clarks injury. Clark is a great free safety who has let up a couple of big plays lately, including that first td yesterday. Anthony Smith is a great free safety who let up a couple of big plays against the best pass offense of all time. If Clark has an injury, we have a more than capable back-up.

Dear Mr.Kashyap..I dont know if making movies is really walking the talkDirecting movies is by no means the equivalent of finding the cure for Cancer or AIDS, or solving issues of world hunger, poverty etc. At the most these films that you perpetuate through this forum remind unfortunate people as to how badly off they are in the first place..which is why most of them would rather go see Golmaal Returns than Gulaal, however well intentioned..The kind of films promoted by pfc and company essentially cater to the demographic who have never had to deal with crippling poverty, illiteracy, oppression, communalism etc being portrayed onscreen. The people really affected by serious issues would rather enjoy three hours of glorious escapism than have their noses rubbed in the dirt of their harsh reality (which they experience day in and day out). Please let us not try to make us out to be more than we really are.I know several dedicated social workers who toil in horrid conditions the world over to actually make the world a better place..and worst of all, who never get an iota of recognition. You know why? Because all that media space is hogged by egotistical film personalities, who are so full of themselves and their petty obsessions that they think the world revolves around them and their struggle with the system. Buddy you have it goodreal good. I hope you know that. So appreciate the life you have and please stop pretending to be a martyr.

1968 Raiders - In the AFL Oakland had the best record but had to travel to New York for the finals and lost 27-23. How fair was that? The Raiders had almost twice the SRS of the Jets in the AFL and beat the Big Apple 43-32 in the Heidi Bowl during the regular season at the Coliseum.

Nice job last night with the interview, I guess every runner shares the same crazy thoughts and dreams as we go into a marathon.Chicago was the same, no where to run 40,000 runners, no organization, Tim, Sean and I were the very last 3 runner to cross the strat line, how crazy is that, and so hot you could not breath, versus cold and wet.I like the fact that you wrote your splits on your bib, trying to convert back and forth is nuts.Congrats, will wait to hear about your next marathon, #8 for you

Dont totally give up on them. Keep praying that they will find Jesus and give up their sinful ways, just as you would pray for anyone else to do the same thing. I even pray for the Muslims to find the only path to heaven. And I am happy every time I hear of some who have.
