While I only got to see three performances at Southpaw last night as part of The Deli's Best of NYC Festival, they were all very worthwhile.
The King Left played a great, energetic set and was the only rock group on the bill. They performed some songs from their previously released EPs: I Have To Let You Win (self-titled EP), The Storm In A Teacup (New York Nothing EP) - my favorite song of theirs, and some new songs that will be on their upcoming CD (release date TBD). http://www.myspace.com/thekingleft
The ladies of the night really blew me away. April Smith and The Great Picture Show
had such spunk and character from her voice down to her white tutu. She sang one really fun song called Terrible Things that she said the show "Dexter" (which she loves) had inspired. She'll be playing again at Fontana's on 5/8 and Mercury Lounge on 5/20.

Elizabeth & the Catapult's alt folk sound was upbeat, melodic and wow, what a big voice for such a petite woman. I really liked their sound a lot. Check them out at Joe's Pub on 6/11.

I guess the New Yorkers who voted really knew what they were talking about!
