It was during "Higher than the Sun" that our Italian friend's 74 year-old father, who barely speaks English, leaned over to inform us that Primal Scream sound "like music that would be played at an orgy."
For their first New York City show since 2002, when they played three nights at Irving Plaza in support of Evil Heat, Bobby Gillespie brought his six-piece band, that includes Gary "Mani" Mounfield and original Primal Scream guitarist Martin Duffy, to Webster Hall for an absolutely thrilling night of music, complete with a stage invader during "Rocks."
Throughout their nearly two hour performance, the energy level never decreased, if anything, it only got higher and crazier. By the end of their first set, the dance club turned rock venue was back to being a full on dance club. The place was absolutely rocking and the tunes kept getting faster and louder as the crowd got more and more into it as the first set climaxed with the set closing "Rocks."
Opening the encore with an excellent version of the ballad "Damages," before bringing the crowd alive and out of control with a revved up version of "Country Girl" and the show closing "Accelerator," complete with a beautiful feedback finale.
Sadly, nothing was played from Burning Wheel, but still, it was awesome....
