That was possibly the worst televised debate I have ever watched! Seriously, you have Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in Pennsylvania to debate a couple days before a primary and ABC decided to spend the first 48 minutes on absolutely nothing!!! NOTHING!!!
For the first 48 minutes of the debate, George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson only asked questions that only belonged on shlock programs like Hannity & Colmes or The O'Reilly Factor. They asked about Obama's patriotism? If Hillary thought Obama could beat McCain?! If Hillary was a liar?!? Asking how "would you use George W. Bush in your administration?"!??!?!
It was 48 minutes before Iraq was even mentioned!!! The economy and oil only got about five minutes each, which is about seven minutes less than George spent questioning them both on Reverend Wright. There was absolutely no questions about China, torture, Russia or the Sudan.
The clear winner of this debate? McCain..........

Your post made me smile, because it's such an interesting phenomenon to see this come full circle. You are representative of those who are obsessed with political rhetoric and labellings and skirting issues in order to focus on the "gotcha game." Now, when a debate such as the one from last night (which I agree was unwatchable) occurs, you lash out for not focusing on issues. The irony.

I don't think there was anything wrong with last night's debate! What were they supposed to talk about -- Health Care for the 3 billionth time? His electability is of prime concern to the people who are deciding the election, and what last night's debate pointed out is that there are SERIOUS chinks in his armor. To me, Obama looks worse and worse the more I get to know him. If he can't even (coherently) defend himself against the someone in his own party, how the hell will he be able to do it against the Republicans?! He had a real opportunity last night to set the record straight and convince the electorate that he DEFINITIVELY is the man for the job. He seriously missed that opportunity because he was like a deer in the headlights last night. His best defense was "We're being distracted by this rhetoric." While it is definitely 100% true that these type of political tactics distract us from the issues at hand, the reality of our country is that it's a part of the political process. And it's only gonna get uglier. So, the fact that he was so weak at defending himself made me seriously quesiton his ability to win in the fall. And in that regard, I think it was very healthy for American democrats to get one last look at the inferior candidate that they will probably elect. They got caught up in all the hope and change...and now unless the Superdelegates save us, we'll have another four years of Republicans.

Hillary has just as much a shot of blowing it in the fall and I would argue even more so.
The poll that came out a few weeks ago that said that a third of Hillary voters would go to McCain in an Obama/McCain matchup while only a quarter of Obama's would go to McCain in a McCain/Clinton matchup is misleading. Obama's supporters are for the most part are affluent voters as theyve been attacking him on and when you ask one of those ultra liberal latte drinkers who will you vote for in the event of a Clinton/McCain race theyll say neither and theyll just watch the thing on tv or will throw a protest vote to our good ole buddy Ralph. I know this because thats what I am going to do.

Adam, Obama is a NOVICE. The fact that he made the statements he made in San Fransisco, as far as I'm concerned, sealed the deal. It's like Presidential Politics 101...Don't talk about locked boxes, don't windsurf, and don't fucking talk about how dumb those backwater hicks are! HELLO!!! And then don't go on TV the next day without a damn good explanation...sounding like a babbling moron. All the latte drinking yuppies in NYC and LA don't add up to 1 tenth the amount of working class white people in the "flyover states", AKA the Silent Majority, AKA the Regan democrats, AKA the people who voted for Bill Clinton and Bush and every president who actually got into office in the past 40 years. There's no WAY that Obama is gonna carry those votes, man. You are out of your fucking mind if you think he will.

You know Obama's "bitter" remark may have been misconstrued or even out of line. But it is the truth, theres some straight talk for ya.
As for telling people they are "backwater hicks" he didnt do that at all... However Senator Clinton did in fact tell tell them to go screw themselves for not voting of her husband.

I'd rather be told that I am being bitter over not having health care or a steady job then just being out right told to go screw myself! Wish Jason wouldve posted that story.
As for winning over the Reagan democrats I am confident that thats going to happen. You know why? Same reason Clinton won in 92 after the Flowers story, the dodge drafting story, ect. broke. Because at the end of the day voters are tired of not having health care, they see a failing economy, and they want to end the war.
McCain has no plan for any of those issues and the sooner Clinton gets out the sooner we can define McCain by pointing that out.
Hillary doesn't care about the democratic party she only cares about herself. The only way she has any shot at the nomination is by winning the super delegates and the only way they will vote for somebody who lost the pledged delegate race, the number of contests, and the popular vote is if that person is McGovern unelectable. So she is doing everything she can to swiftboat Obama and make him unelectable. So what if she loses the nomination? As long as Obama loses to McCain she can run again in 4 years!
Screw that, I will never cast my ballot for her in my lifetime.
