Joanna Newson and the Ys Street Band performed an absolutely stunning two and hour show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Opera House.
The show was divided into two sets. During the first set, the group was accompanied by the phenomenal Brooklyn Philharmonic, for which they played Ys in its entirety. The second set saw Joanna joined by her three-piece Ys Street Band, as they ran throw some old songs and two new songs. The evening ended with her doing an amazing cover of Karen Dalton's "In The Evening."
This show was beyond amazing. This was the perfect venue for this show. The crowd was ultra-respectful (unlike the Spiritualized audience at the Apollo). There was no backdrop or screen. Absolutely no light show whatsoever. Nothing to distract from the near perfect music. If I had one complaint, it's that the Brooklyn Philharmonic didn't play with Joanna for the entire two hours and, honestly, the change in atmosphere, both onstage and off, made the show even more intimate.
It's only January and I think I already have my number one show of the year.........
Check out more photographs from the show taken by Kyle Dean Reinford......

Right there with you on this absolutely amazing show!
My only question is, why does everybody keep leaving "Colleen" off of the set list??
I thought it was the best piece performed by the band!

Forgive ME, but more about the subject, please!! You are going away from the topic too frequently, therefore it is uneasy to read your posts.
