So tonight is the first of Wordless Music performances of Jonny Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver at The Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City.
Radiohead fans were very excited, especially because it would be a chance to see Jonny!
But how is Jonny performing in New York City if Radiohead is doing an In-store performance in England tonight?
I love the World Music Series, but they really, really, really misled people into believing that their event would feature Jonny............

WTF. and the following is the mails i ve got from wordless....
Hi there,
These concerts have been advertised since day one as the Wordless Music Orchestra performing Jonny Greenwood's music. Sorry to hear that you were expecting something different but, as displayed quite prominently when you purchased tickets, all sales are final.
Thanks for the commentary. Sorry you're not able to be there tonite.

i forget where i saw it (maybe pitchfork?), but jonny said a long while ago that he was excited about the wordless music show but that he would not be able to attend. he basically chalked it up to the fact it'd be irresponsible to fly to new york for those shows after all he and radiohead have been championing about cutting emissions and gas usage.
it stinks, obviously, but i know for a fact that the wordless series has said he wouldn't be there, which is why i never purchased tickets. buyer beware.

ann:
He wrote a piece for string orchestra. He plays guitar. And he doesn't conduct. So why would he be performing? And if he were in attendance the piece would have sounded exactly the same. Except you would have been gawking at him the whole time and not paying attention.
Since when does an orchestral performance specifically have to state that the composer will NOT be in attendance? That would only be treating his composition as a novelty instead of casting it in it's proper idiom. Gavin Bryars and John Adams weren't there either. If you're a fan of Jonny's you should care more about hearing his music than laying your eyes on him.
The performance was incredible by the way. How often do you get to hear the music from a critically acclaimed movie while it's still in the theater?
