POLITICAL JUNK | Iraq War, North Korea, WSJ,

combs.jpg
Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki declared Saturday that Iraqi forces could secure the country on their own any time American troops decided to withdraw. Considering that Iraq is a sovereign nation and that President Bush has said that American troops will be able to return home when Iraqi's can secure their own country, doesn't this seem like an appropriate time to leave........

Negotiating works! North Korea agreed to shut down their nuclear reactors in exchange for 50,000 tons of oil. On Monday, U.N. inspectors confirmed that North Korea shut down it's 5-megawatt nuclear reactor in Yongbyon, one of the five facilities that Pyongyang agreed to close and their sole functioning nuclear reactor.........

Fox bans a condom television ad, saying "it objected to the message that condoms can prevent pregnancy." WTF...........

The White House on Friday appeared resigned to the fact that the Iraqi parliament is going to take August off, even though it has just eight weeks to show progress on military, political and economic benchmarks prescribed by the United States. It's great our soldiers are fighting a war for them..........

The Republican Senate minority continues to fillibuster any vote on Iraq. Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says any vote that fails to reach 60 "Yeas" will be fillibustered by Republicans. I wonder how hyprocriticial those Republicans who wanted to ban the fillibuster feel when they vote to block bills..........

The Senate will pull its first all-night debate on the Iraq war in advance of a vote on whether to bring home combat troops by next spring. The rare, round-the-clock session Tuesday night through Wednesday morning is intended to bait Republicans into an exhaustive debate on the politically unpopular war, as well as punish GOP members for routinely blocking anti-war legislation. "How many sleepless nights have our soldiers and their families had?" said Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill............

Today is the day the Wall Street Journal lost all credibility. Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. has reached a tentative agreement to buy Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal..........

MItt Romney pays $300 for haircuts........

Telex:

Yeah that condom thing is dumb, but CBS banned it as well and i think i heard a bunch of other affiliates refuse to air it.
As for Iraq, I know you're in denial about this, but there are security implications there for the US and we cant leave until we feel it is stabilized. You desperately need to sit down and speak with someone in the armed forces who could set you straight.
Yeah, negotiating works, it worked really well with clinton and N. Korea. Buying them off with oil, yup, that's brilliant.
If the WSJ has now lost credibility because a right leaning media mogul owns them, tell me, does the NY Times, LA Times, and Wash Post have any credibility?

Tovar:

Iraq is a lost cause, Telex, I think you are the one in denial. Anyone can see this, and I am sure everyone is already going to know what's going to be on Gen. Petreus' "end all be all" report come September. It will probably be filed under the " No Shit Section," of the newspapers.

I do agree with you on how most of the country's papers have lost credibility, especially when it came to the Iraq war, excluding the Knight Ridder newspapers, whom actually seemed to be the only newspaper doing actual journalism during this time.

The government is supposed to work for the American people, not the other way around, and when you have more than 70 percent of the American people that want this war to end, you got a very unpopular war, much like Vietnam and we all know how that one ended.

Telex:

Tovar, by saying Iraq is a lost cause, you are handing defeat to the animals we are fighting there, in particular Al-Q and Iran. That's not rhetoric, it's the truth. That's who we are fighting there and its imperative that we do not just thrown our hands up. You say i am the only one in so-called-denial? Go speak to someone who has either been there or more importantly served there and ask what will happen if we just pull out as these disgraceful ideologues are suggesting. I'm resigned to the fact hat this country is losing its soul and everything that made it great is quickly fading , but the political theater that is taking place now by the slugs in DC is pathetic and a hard kick in the face to our military.

Tovar:

I do have friends that have already done a tour in Iraq, they were lucky enough to come back in one piece, although one is going back in the next few weeks, and based on the conversations I had with them , they gave me the sense that the people there we are supposedly fighting for, do not want us there. There were stories about how much the local authorities there were corrupt, and how morale for the whole war in general is pretty low.

It's funny that you mention Iran, but you fail to recognize that at least half of the foreign fighters there that are attacking our troops are Saudi! Saudi Arabia, of course, are supposed to be one of our big allies. Why has the administration, or Congress for that matter, not brought up censure with Saudi Arabia? Instead they seemed to be focus on Iran, which was the plan all along.

I am sorry, Telex, this is the truth of the matter. You are in fact, espousing the same rhetoric used by the people who continue to support this unlawful and unpopular war.

How many more Americans have to die, before the cost of it is just too great?
