We are so very happy to hear that CBS has come to their senses and finally dumped Jack-FM shuffle programming from 101.1 in New York City. They have relaunched the personality-driven WCBS, New York's one and only oldies station.
While such legenderary dj's like Cousin Brucie have fled to the wonderful world of Sirius Satellite Radio, Bob Shannon and Dan Taylor will be returning to terrestrial airwaves.
With the demise of WLIR/WDRE, and the continued takeover of radio by Clear Channel, the few tolerable stations in New York City have disappeared over the years. With the exception of WCBS, WNYC and WFUV, New York City had no good music station. It's sad that radio in New York City is so shitty. It's actually kind of pathetic.
When we lost WCBS to the horrible JACK-FM, the outcry was more than audible. It may have taken the numbskulls at CBS awhile to realize that they made a mistake, but I'm glad they finally came to their senses.
Long live the oldies. Long live the dj. Kill the shuffle. Kill the program director...........

WNYU is a great station. WFMU is not technically a NYC station, but it is across the river and serves the city. Most of their concert giveaways are for NYC shows. I listen to it in Brooklyn.
I believe 102.7 is now the new Jack-type station. WCBS had more of a brand name, so it makes sense for 102.7 to be the ipod-station and 101.1 return to the oldies. Actually, 101.1 hasn't been that great in the past several years. Too much crap '80s music like Billy Joel was being played. I wish they would stick to the '50s and '60s.

I'm looking forward to the oldies format's return, but I hope they also listen to the BIG criticism they were getting before the Jack FM format, which was that they had a tiny playlist and, as the previous commenter noted, too much 80's stuff. If everyone loves oldies so much, they should deepen their playlist!

they're still going to be playing 80's stuff. From what i hear it's going to be hits from the 60's, 70's and 80's so we'll see what happens with that.

I spend most of my free time online for pleasure. I know all websites, and this is the one about real events that really took place in the world.

My boyfriend spends too much time on websites like this. I hate all those sources! They must be abandoned!
