CAT POWER | Covers Album Volume Two, McCarren

catpower_pool.JPG
Cat Power is set to release The Covers Record: Volume Two. The album is currently schedule for an early January release. It is rumored to include songs by Hank Williams, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Kitty Wells, Duke Ellington and Fairport Convention, and Bob Dylan.

Also, I was out of town at a wedding and missed the Cat Power and Built to Spill show at McCarren Park Pool. Anyone go? Thoughts. (photo from scatterheart obscura).......

BTS played an excellent set drawing tracks from most of their full lengths. Since they were only allotted 1 hour and 15 minutes of play time, it would be easy to list the many excellent songs they did not have time to play. However, the songs they played were amazing. Highlights for me include "Nowhere nothing" from their first album and an amazing version of "Car" from their second release. Closing with "Carry the Zero" was perfect.

i didn't recognize most of cat power's set, so they probably focused on the stuff to be released. they pretty much stayed away from the greatest.

bts were awesome.

see some pics, and the bts setlist here: http://qbertplaya.blogspot.com/2007/07/built-to-spillcat-power-mccarren-pool.html.

Chan was in great spirits and great voice, and beautiful as ever, but I did not recognize most of the material (there was little audience recognition for most of it so I suspect most felt the same way), so . . . that made it a bit unexciting. I love her, but I find that her music doesn't usually grab me on the first listen...it grows on me until I love it. So, a set made of mostly newer stuff wasn't the best move in my opinion. Also, the new band is fine, but the band she toured with last year was great. Still... all in all, great weather, and a great night. This venue is one of my favorites in the city now... wish more good acts would play there.

What kind of stuff are you talking about? I didn’t get a word of it! I’ve never understood people, who spend their time on commenting stuff like that.

Yes, but I think this is disputable post.
