PRESIDENT BUSH | Vetoes Embryonic Stem Cell Bill

"The president does not believe it's appropriate to put an end to human life for research purposes."
-Tony Snow on the Presidents decision to veto the Embryonic Stem Cell Bill

I truly thought that stem cell research was a completely non-partisan issue. The only folks that are against stem cell research seem to be fundamentalists who think that a discarded embryo is a functioning child (Strangely, a majority of fundamentalists support legalized death sentences and keeping suffering people alive via respirators and other machines). It's so sad that our shameful President continues to disregard the will of the people. And why are the Democrats - and the majority of Republicans - so scared to challenge the President on this issue? Shame......

bklynd:

Huh? (a) It's totally a partisan issue, like all of the "social issues." Just like abortion or gay marriage - the majority of Dems are on one side and many Republicans are committed to the other.

(b) The Dems *did* stand up to Bush by passing this bill. But, he vetoed it. He wins, for now.

bklynd:

Guess I should add - of course most Dems in congress still won't endorse gay marriage.

jomoms:

stick with music man. ur handle on politics, though well intentioned, is LACKING.

telex:

Agree with bklynd, it's all partisanship and gamesmanship. Question for ya though...dont you hate when morality is either imposed by gov't or legislated? Works both ways man.
