Lou Reed opened the HighLine Ballroom last night. He played a wonderful set that surprisingly did not include any of his major hits. He performed with only a bass, rhythm and cello player, as well as John Zorn on a couple of tunes.
The venue itself is a nice mix between the Bowery Ballroom and the Hiro Ballroom. Like the Bowery is holds about 500-600, including a balcony circling the floor. Bars on both sides of floor. The stage is huge. All in all, it seems like a good venue.
Among those at the show were Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Iman, Patti Smith, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe, Dennis Leary, Elvis Costello & Diana Krall, Kate Bosworth, Helena Christensen, Ed Burns, Christy Turlington, Adam Clayton, The Edge, Mike D. of Beastie Boys, Jimmy Fallon, Julianne Moore, Steve Schirripa, Emeril Lagasse, Rachel Ray (puke) and Mario Batali.
I missed Okkervil River...........

Thanks! I was also there, and enchanted by Lou Reed and the band, but I never noticed such great celebrities were there. To me, all the heroes...

I have never seen anything that would look so disgusting. Why do people publish stuff like that? I don’t understand them!
