SammySam Champion. Best unsigned band in America.

They posted a song from their untitled, unsigned, no release date sophomore album on their myspace page called "Like A Secret." It's so stellar. Also, it's not even close to the best new track they got.

WILCO | June 25th at Hammerstein, Sky Blue Sky Review

WildoWilco just expanded the first leg of their Sky Blue Sky tour to include some tri-state area shows. They'll hit the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on June 25th. That's way more intimate than when Wilco last played New York City, which was December 31, 2005, with Sleater-Kinney and Flaming Lips.

So Sky Blue Sky has been floating around the old internet for awhile and we have to admit that we're kind of disappointed by it. Sadly, it's just nowhere near as powerful as A Ghost Is Born or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

Some of Sky Blue Sky's faults can be blamed on sequencing. The album's best tracks first arrive around number ten and eleven, "Walken" and "What Light." Meanwhile, the first couple tracks sound like songs that could have been on the Grateful Dead's American Beauty. I admit that I'm no fan of the Dead, but if you're gonna take their blues-jam aesthetic, you may as well knock-off "Ripple." When Wilco open their new album with "Either Way," I don't get overtaken they way I did with "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" or "At Least That's What You Said."

All that said, this may not be Wilco's best album, but it's still really good. Most bands would kill to make a record like Sky Blue Sky, but the bar has been raised so high for this band that I feel let down........

WILCO TOUR DATES

JOHNNY CASH | Famed Home Burns Down

As a huge Johnny Cash fan, story breaks my heart:

The lakeside Tennessee home of late country music superstar Johnny Cash has been destroyed in a fire.

It burned down on Tuesday while renovations were being carried out for its new owner, Bee Gee Barry Gibb.

The interior of the house, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, was used in the video for Cash's final hit, his 2002 cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt.

Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived in the house from 1968 until their deaths, months apart, in 2003.

This is also where Johnny Cash wrote and/or recorded a majority of his musical output, from the Folsom Prison tracks to his American series..........

FEIST | Arts & Leisure Cover Girl, Town Hall in NYC, "1-2-3-4" Video

feist.jpgFeist gets the full New York Times Sunday Arts & Leisure treatment. The cover story on the one-time Peaches back-up dancer includes this tasty nugget of information:

When she tours this time around, Feist will have a luxury: a seated audience in theaters rather than her former circuit of rock clubs. She is booked at Massey Hall, Toronto’s equivalent of Carnegie Hall, and she comes to Town Hall in Manhattan on June 11.
She played guitar in By Divine Right, a rock band that opened a stadium tour for the Canadian favorites the Tragically Hip, and she released her own promising but unexceptional debut album, “Monarch,” in 1999, without much impact. She joined her roommate, the conceptually bawdy rapper Peaches, as singer, rapper, dancer and sock puppeteer (billing herself as Bitch Lap Lap), and went on to tour Europe with Peaches’s keyboardist, Gonzales, in his own comically glam mode. A video circulating on YouTube shows him rapping with Feist, who is in a unitard, singing backup and pretending to tap-dance.

Back in Toronto (although she still has a Paris apartment) Feist found herself among the group of friends that evolved into the large, ever-changing band Broken Social Scene, and she went on to tour with them, singing and sometimes stage-diving. Broken Social Scene’s main songwriter, Kevin Drew, is now her boyfriend.

Feist's video for "1-2-3-4" is one-shot dance explosion that recalls a GAP ad, Bjork's "It's Oh So Quiet" and The Chemical Brothers' "Let Forever Be". Check it out below......

OF MONTREAL | Live Karaoke at Studio B, Michael Showalter as Alan Shemper, Paul Rudd & David Wain

Last night, New York Magazine threw one hell of a party at Studio B in Brooklyn. Of Montreal performed their (un)usual fantastic stage show, then after a short comedy set from emcee Michael Showalter, in character as the Alan Shemper from Wet Hot American Summer, the Elephant 6ers returned to the stage as the backing band for a twenty-plus song karaoke fiesta. Both sets were fantastic.

The karaoke highlight was when Paul Rudd and David Wain performing a rocking version of Boston's "More Than A Feeling." Another duo threw in an a cappella verse from "Kiss From A Rose" while performing The Pixies' "Here Comes Your Man." Other songs performed were Guns N Roses's "Sweet Child O' Mine," INXS' "Need You Tonight" (done by Michael Showalter), The Rolling Stones' "Rocks Off" and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"..........

OPENING ACTS | The National open for Arcade Fire, Low for Wilco

I'm always happy to see an opening act I truly dig get added to a show I'm already attending.

First off, Low have postponed their West Coast headlining tour until September to open a string of dates for Wilco. This will include a date at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

And with five gigs at the Bowery Ballroom was not enough area shows for The National. The band have now been confirmed as the opening act for The Arcade Fire's three New York Shows. The National will also open for The Arcade Fire in a couple other cities......

ARCADE FIRE | Win Recovering From Surgery, Two New Los Angeles Shows

Since The Arcade Fire started their promotional tour for Neon Bible, Win Butler has been suffering from a serious sinus and bronchial infection. After being forced to cut some performances short and cancel other dates completely, he finally went into surgery. Thankfully, it was a success and he is fully recovering. Word is that the delicate surgery won't have any effect on his voice (a major concern) and that he will be fine by the time they start their U.S. dates on April 26th in San Diego.

In related news, The Arcade Fire have added two shows, May 29th and 30th, at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre. A presale starts on Thursday, April 19th, at 10AM PT....

SUPREME COURT | Bans Abortion Method

The Supreme Court of the United States handed the anti-choice crusaders a very scary, major victory today. One that should concern every woman and doctor:

The Supreme Court upheld the nationwide ban on a controversial abortion procedure Wednesday, handing abortion opponents the long-awaited victory they expected from a more conservative bench.

The 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman's constitutional right to an abortion.

It was the first time the court banned a specific procedure in a case over how -- not whether -- to perform an abortion.

Abortion rights groups as well as the leading association of obstetricians and gynecologists have said the procedure sometimes is the safest for a woman. They also said that such a ruling could threaten most abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, although government lawyers and others who favor the ban said there are alternate, more widely used procedures that remain legal.

Six federal courts have said the law that was in focus Wednesday is an impermissible restriction on a woman's constitutional right to an abortion.

The law bans a method of ending a pregnancy, rather than limiting when an abortion can be performed.

''Today's decision is alarming,'' Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote in dissent. She said the ruling ''refuses to take ... seriously'' previous Supreme Court decisions on abortion.

Ginsburg said the latest decision ''tolerates, indeed applauds, federal intervention to ban nationwide a procedure found necessary and proper in certain cases by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.''

The Republican-controlled Congress responded in 2003 by passing a federal law that asserted the procedure is gruesome, inhumane and never medically necessary to preserve a woman's health. That statement was designed to overcome the health exception to restrictions that the court has demanded in abortion cases.

What this all generally means is that anti-choice radicals have found a way around overturning Roe v Wade. Their new plan is not to question the legality of abortions, but to go after the actual procedure. They got their first victory today. We live truly scary times and the idea that theocrats are now in control of the Supreme Court is terrifying......

Urban Outfitters has organized the Free Yr Radio Tour, in which bands will perform free afternoon in-stores at select Urban Outfitter locations to benefit internet radio stations. The other daty, internet radio stations and those small regional stations who rely so much on their internet audience, were dealt a major blog when the government denied their appeal of raising the royalty rate for the use of sound recordings on Internet radio stations for 2006-2010.

MANIC STREET PREACHERS | "Underdogs" and "Your Love Is Not Enough"

Msp_tigers.jpgThe Manic Street Preachers are long past their peak. Once, they came across as one of the most intellectual bands. Pairing books to lyrics, cutting to caring, death to glory. While This is My Trush Tell Me Yours was the start of their downfall, it was really after 2000's stand-alone single "The Masses Against The Classes" that their material failed to be as powerful as it once had.

Last year, both James Dean Bradfield and Nicky Wire released solo albums, Neither of them are particularly memorable, but they did find both musicians once again pushing themselves. All hoped that that energy would carry over to the next Manic record.

On May 7th, the Manic Street Preachers will release Send Away The Tigers. For the first time since the their long rise to fame, the band finds themselves undervalued and underdogs. No one expects Send Away The Tigers to be anything other than another record by a band who peaked with 1994's The Holy Bible and 1996's Everything Must Go..........

DAVID BYRNE | Confirms New Yorker Festival Event, Bike Stolen

It may be six months away, but we're already stoked for this year's New Yorker Festival thanks to the news that David Byrne is organizing and hosting an evening of music and stories dedicated to atlernative transportation methods on October 6th at Town Hall. Byrne joins other popular New York City personalities as Brian Lehrer and Blonde Redhead's Amedeo Pace as bicycle enthusiasts.

On his blog, he writes:

Had a very exciting meeting on Wednesday re: the Bike Forum project. The New Yorker will produce this event as part of their fall festival. It will be a forum, with entertainment, at Town Hall on Saturday October 6 on the subject of bikes in NYC. I’ve been trying to get this to happen for a while and now it’s picking up steam and momentum. As someone who has biked here as a means of transportation for many many years I sense a growing acceptance of the human-powered machine with two wheels. Some fears and hurdles to be dealt with for sure — but I sense a tipping point looming.

In related news, Gothamist reports that David Byrne's bike was stolen the other day. Some douchebag took it while he was checking out a flick at the IFC Center.

The New Yorker Festival takes place on October 5th, 6th and 7th.......

OTTAWA BLUESFEST | Superb, Diverse Line-Up

The Ottawa Bluesfest takes over LeBreton Flats Park from July 5th through 15th. This year's line-up is all over the place, but truly stellar.

The festival will feature Bob Dylan, Thw White Stripes, Cat Power, Manu Chao, Kanye West, Final Fantasy, Tokyo Police Club, Steve Miller Band, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Mute Math, Los Lobos, Kid Koala, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, George Clinton & The P-Funk All Stars, Femi Kuti, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Built To Spill, and tons more.

I wish they squeezed this line-up into a nice three-day weekend. Then I probably would have made the trip.

Full line-up and performance schedule after the jump......

ART BRUT | Live at Studio B, Setlist & Review

"Don't ever listen to a band...unless that band is the Mountain Goats or the Hold Steady." -Eddie Argos

ART%20BRUT%20-%20STUDIO%20B%20on%204-17-06%20-%201.jpg

So much of an Art Brut show depends on how much energy the band has to fed off of. Studio B did not provide that much energy, but the band still put on a decent performance. Shockingly, Eddie also seemed a bit hungover. Whatever, the new tracks sounded pretty good though. Eddie did his usual schtick and wacky banter. Fun was had.

And something about Eddie Argos - like the way he talks and his whole body language - keeps making me think of The Office's Gareth Keenan...........

AMERICAN IDOL | Sanjaya Voted Off, Scandal

sanjaya%20so%20long.JPG

Sanjaya Malakar was "voted" off of American Idol last night! I don't believe for a second that Sanjaya actually got the lowest amount of votes. The "Vote for the Worst" campaign has spread like a wildfire across America, with everyone from Howard Stern to Perez Hilton urging people to vote for Sanjaya. What a rip.

And now back to ignoring American Idol.......

BLOG RADIO | Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Live Session & Interview

A couple days ago, we welcomed Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to our Sirius Satelllite Radio studio to record a live acoustic session and full-band interview for Blog Radio with Product Shop NYC.

The band played four acoustic tracks, including "Some Loud Thunder" and an absolutely amazing version of "Satan Said Dance," which may end up being the best recorded version of the song I've ever heard!

The full interview and live session will air on Monday, April 23rd, at 10PM ET on Sirius Left of Center (Channel 26).........

SOULWAX AND MUSCLES | Studio B Review

Soulwax and Muscles played a late set at Studio B yesterday. By the time Art Brut finished there was already a line outside the club. Soulwax did not hit the stage till 1:30 in the morning but those there did not seem to mind. The five from Ghent, Belgium were wearing all white and once they started playing, they didn't stop. Live dance music executed this well is rare and few can pull it off, especially the way they are able to almost erase transitions between songs. You really only notice the cycle of lulls and climaxes. I had to cash out early because I also saw the highly entertaining Art Brut and O'Death but it was hard to know when to just stop dancing. The night probably could have run a bit smoother and ended earlier if they had just combined the two shows, which could have even been called "Lookout! DJs formed a band." Soulwax also christened the venue just seven months ago when Studio B first opened.

soulwax_18Apr07_2.jpg

The opener Muscles, from Melbourne, Australia, is one guy with two keyboards and a laptop. This unassuming kid's appearance in khaki pants and a parka was quite the contrast to him wildly singing ridiculous lyrics over candy-coated beats. The crowd was slow to start dancing but a large group of European dudes arrived all at once, preceded straight to the front of the dancefloor, and kick-started the rest of the crowd. Muscles was fun. Modular will eventually put out his record.

McCARREN POOL | Disco Biscuits & Unphrey's McGee, Douchebags

I'm not about to debate whether jam bands suck or not. Hell, I could really give two shits that Clear Channel/Live Nation booked the Disco Biscuits & Unphrey's McGee show at McCarren Park Pool. Sure it seems to be an odd choice, but whatever, that's not what bothers me.

The thing that truly makes this show so ridiculous is that tickets go on sale on 4/20 at 4:20pm. This folks, is exactly why so many people make fun of jam bands. Seriously, both of these groups are made up of people in their thirties. I don't care that they smoke the marijuana, but what kind of douchebag is making 4-20 jokes in their thirties? What fucking losers........

JARVIS COCKER | Webster Review, Setlist, Photographs

Jarvis_Webster_Hall_1.jpgLet's be honest and say that if it weren't for Pulp, there is no way that Jarvis Cocker would be headlining two sold out nights at Webster Hall. This isn't to say that his solo debut, Jarvis, doesn't rate. It definitely does. It's an extremely strong album. But his biggest strength is still that he's Jarvis Cocker from Pulp, not Jarvis from Jarvis.

That said, Jarvis' first U.S. show in nearly a decade was tops. He's still one of the best frontmen to ever grace the stage. It's almost ironic how his theatrical moves now mirror those of Michael Jackson. His free hand is like a conducters wand that has got a mind of its own. Between every song, Jarvis provided hysterical banter. He sounded amazing. The band was excellent. All in all, top marks.

Jarvis_Webster_Hall_5.jpgThat being said, Jarvis played eleven of his solo songs (one of which was a UK b-side) and two familiar covers (He's been covering the Talking Heads and Black Sabbath throughout his European dates). It was a nice setlist, even if he didn't play "Black Magic," which was originally on the setlist, but never got played. What the show was missing was kind of obvious. He really should have thrown a couple of Pulp songs into the mix rather than play two cover songs. I'm not asking for him to play "Common People" or "Babies," but he easily could have performed any number of tunes from Pulp's vast back catalog. Hell, he could have played "This is the Night" from the Harry Potter soundtrack and it would have been a great addition. The show really could have used them. The crowd could have used them.

For a performer who staked their claim as one of us, it seems he's now truly gone solo......

POLITICAL JUNK | Jessica Lynch, Vatican, Alberto Gonzales

  • With another embarassing and ridiculous scandal being exposed, this one how the family of former football player turned soldier turned national hero Pat Tillman lied to them and the public about how he died, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is looking into why the Bush administration and the Pentagon are releasing “misinformation from the battlefield.” At the hearing, Pvt. Jessica Lynch said, "I'm still confused why they chose to lie....The bottom line is the American people are capable of determining their own ideals for heroes and they don’t need to be told elaborate tales....The truth of war is not always easy to hear but it always more heroic than the hype."............
  • The Vatican branded homosexual marriage an evil and denounced abortion and euthanasia as forms of "terrorism with a human face." And Jesus is rolling over in his grave (or where ever he may be).........
  • Everyone agreed that Alberto Gonzales' appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week was an absolute disaster, that is, expect President Bush, who says, "The Attorney General went up and gave a very candid assessment, and answered every question he could possibly answer, honestly answer, in a way that increased my confidence in his ability to do the job."........

WHITE STRIPES | "Icky Thump" single, Tonight on iTunes

icky%20thump.jpgIt's been so long since I've been counting down the days until an album was released, but just the though of The White Stripe's Icky Thump gets my nerves all worked up.

The White Stripes' first single, 'Icky Thump', will be available exclusively online through the iTunes music stores (US and Canada only) starting at 12:01 am this Thursday, April 26th.

In addition, the June 6th edition of the NME will include a free 7" vinyl single featuring "Rag and Bone" from Icky Thump, with an etching on the b-side.

Meanwhile, The Raconteurs have already written 12 songs for the follow-up to Broken Boy Soldiers and are currently holed up in Blackbird Studio in Nashville. The band are hoping to finish the LP before their frontman hits the road with The White Stripes in the summer...........

CHILDBALLADS | Sorted & Distorted at Black Betty's

    Childballads_Black_Bettys_1.jpg

At around 12:30AM this morning, The Childballads crowded onto the small stage at Black Betty's in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for their first area show in about two years.

The first sign that things would be different was that neither Betsy Wright or Judah Bauer, both of whom played on the Childballads excellent EP, were going to be performing. Instead, Stuart Lupton was backed by a simple three-piece band (Tunde Oyewole on bass guitar, Paul Arfield on rhythm guitar, John Melville on drums).

I don't think it's fair to give a full review, as I left around 1:15AM, after the band barely wobbled their way through three songs, plus a cover of Bob Dylan's "Walls of Red Wing." To say that Stuart Lupton, the troubled singer of Jonathan Fire*Eater, was a mess would be an understatement. He was so fucked up and it was so pathetic and sad to watch. He could barely get out the lyrics. He could barely stand. He could barely even get into his goth character. That amazing voice of his was off all night. And ugh, I don't even want to go on. It's just so sad.

Stuart is such a talent and it's such a waste to see him like this. I couldn't watch this train wreck and had to leave. That boy has got to get his shit together. He really needs to. I beg him. Please.

The Childballads return to Brooklyn on May 10th for a headlining show at Studio B........

POLITICAL JUNK | McCain on Daily Show, Dems Debate, Giuliani Predicts Another 9/11

  • John McCain took his struggling Presidential campaign to The Daily Show, where Jon Stewart grilled him on his war stance, his public policies, and much more.....
  • Tonight is the first debate between the eight Democratic White House candidates in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Their face-off comes in an early primary state that holds the first nominating contest in the South in January 2008. It's Clinton vs Obama vs Edwards (who won the South Carolina primary in 2004) vs Gov. Bill Richardson vs Sens. Christopher Dodd vs. Joseph Biden vs. Rep. Dennis Kucinich vs former Sen. Mike Gravel......
  • Kucinich has filed papers to start the impeachment process of Vice President Dick Cheney. In response, Cheney laughed......
  • The sitting Governor of Kentucky is considering calling the state legislature into a special session to pass a law preventing the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville from providing domestic partner benefits for unmarried and same-sex partners of their employees.......
  • Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick wants to end state-sponsored, abstinence-only sex education in Massachusetts, a year after Governor Mitt Romney ordered the Department of Public Health to redirect a long-standing federal abstinence grant to classes that focus exclusively on encouraging teenagers to avoid sexual encounters........
  • Rudy Giuliani follows George Bush's campaign tactic of fear-mongering. At a speech this week, the former Mayor of New York City said that if a Democrat is elected President, America will be attacked by terrorists. But if he's elected, we'll be super-duper safe.........
  • New Hampshire is about to approve same-sex unions. New England the first region to have every state granting a measure of legal rights to same-sex couples.......
  • JON STEWART | Live Stand-Up Tour Dates

Starting tomorrow in Philadephia, Jon Stewart is taking his political brand of humor on the road. But I ask, why no New York City dates?

Does anyone remember his 1996 HBO comedy special called Unleavened?

    JON STEWART TOUR DATES

POLITICAL JUNK | Summer in Iraq, Tenet's Book, Giuliani Against Civil Unions, Debates

    debate.jpg

  • The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to take two-month recess this summer! How do you help a country that needs more diplomacy when there are no diplomats? General Petraeus must be freaking out.....
  • In former CIA head George Tenet's explosive book, “At the Center of the Storm,” writes a whole of damning things about Cheney, the war in Iraq, and the Bush administration. The scariest thing though is that he expresses puzzlement that al-Qaida has not sent "suicide bombers to cause chaos in a half-dozen American shopping malls on any given day....al-Qaida is here and waiting". That is truly scary and fucked up.....
  • In a bid to win over conservatives, Rudy Giuliani is changing his stance on gay rights and civil unions. How pathetic is it that the former Mayor has to flip-flop on this issue? This is a mayor who has repeatedly done drag and lived with a gay couple after his last divorce. He has always been gay friendly, but now that he's running for President as a Republican, he's against civil unions and benifits for gay couples............
  • Fox News, who is sponsoring a May 15th Republican debate in South Caroling, will be selected ten out of the possible fourteen candidates to participate in the debate. So Fox official controls the Republican party.........
  • Anybody watch the Democrat debate last night? Opinions on who you thought did best......
  • HAPPY MONDAYS | No Bez For Coachella

Unsurprisingly, The Happy Mondays will not be joined by their dancing-idiot-mascot Bez when they appear at the Coachella Festival, which is their first U.S. gig since 1991, when the opened for Jane's Addiction's Ritual de lo Habitual tour.

It appears the E-Tard was denied a visa. Which makes no sense seeing as Shaun Ryder was able to make his way through customs. (via Digital Spy via Idolator)........

PRINCE | With Special Uninvited Guest Paris Hilton

At one of Prince's Vegas 3121 Club shows, Paris Hilton jumped up on stage to dance after two of her friends were plucked from the crowd. So after Paris crashed the stage, as she was not actually invited up like her friends were, and started dancing around like a fool, she also "lost both of her shoes on stage and her right breast fell out."

After a minute of Paris being Paris, Prince called her over and tried to get Paris to sing. He named checked her "Stars Are Blind" single and put the microphone in front of her face and said, "Let's see if you really can sing."

Paris, refused to sing, left the stage, and two songs later, left the show. (via Prince.org and US Weekly).

    Prince is hysterical......

JESUS & MARY CHAIN | First Reunion Show Review, Setlist & Video of "Just Like Honey," Annie Giant Drag

The Jesus & Mary Chain played their first reunion gig last night at the Glass House in Pomona, California. As usual, they ignored the crowd, started off like a mess and finished like champs. They were joined by Annie Hardy from Giant Drag, and not Scarlett Johanson, for "Just Like Honey." All reports say it was incredible. This setlist makes me wet........

COACHELLA | Another Festival Update, Best in Show?

coachella%20decemberists.jpgIt's 108º in Indio! And here's the news that we've been getting from various outlets and amigos:

  • In a bid to steal the Best in Show award from Bjork, the Arcade Fire delivered a fantastic set that was heavy on material from Funeral. The band took the stage while the audience was singing along to "Maps" and no one stopped singing the entire time tha band played. Win played "Rebellion (Lies)" in the middle of the gigantic crowd, which made 65,000 people seem intimate........
  • Hot Chip's afternoon performance turned the dance tent into a death trap suana. By the time they get to their cover of New Order's "Temptation," the tempture is about 150º, no eaggeration.....
  • A man in his early 20s was impaled on a fence. He was one of two individuals air-lifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for trauma-related injuries. The other had been physically assaulted.....
  • Kazu Makino from Blonde Redhead is sooooo sexy. Watching her and Amedeo is like watching musical pornography.......
  • The Decemberists were attacked by a shark on stage. Well, they were attacked by a couple people dressed as a giant shark. Hysterical.......
  • LCD Soundsystem into The Rapture on the small outdoor stage was fantastic. Same routine as they had when they played together at the Bowery Ballroom in 2004, but still as funky.....
  • Ghostface Killah paid tribute to his late Wu-Tang Clan mate Ol' Dirty Bastard by performing "Shimmy Shimmy Ya".......
  • Californians love the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I mean, they really, really, really love their hometown boys.....
  • Was it just me or was Regina Spektor fantastic? A nomination for best in show?.......
  • BEIRUT | "Elephant Gun" Video

Alma Har'el directed the video for "Elephant Gun," the brilliant song from Beirut's Lon Gisland EP. This is the bands first music video...

POLITICAL JUNK | Bush's Abstinence-Only, anti-condom, AIDS Czar Resigns After Caught Using Escort Service + Iraq War + Black April + Katrina + Tenet

  • Deputy Secretary of State Randall Tobias, the married Bush Administration AIDS Czar who promoted abstinence-only education and denigrating condoms, resigned after admitting he used "D.C. Madam's" escort service. I wonder if he used a condom while fucking a prostitute......
  • The Washington Post is reporting that the United States failed to use $854 million for Kartina Aid from Britain, Canada, Greece and Israel. The main reason for not using the money: incompetence! So far, the Katrina disaster has cost $125 billion and progress continues to be extremely slow.....
  • After the President vetos the Iraq War spending bill on the grounds that it calls for a troop removal beginning in September, congress should give the President what he wants. Bush said he will not consider whether we're making "progress" with the "surge" until September. Fine then. Give Bush the money he wants with a review in September. If it fails, then the President should admit his mistake, fire those responsible for making the decision to go forward with the surge, and withdraw all troops. If it works, good for Iraq..........
  • This month, now being referred to as "Black April" by the military, has been one of the deadliest months in Iraq since the battle of Fallujah. This has also been the deadliest month of the entire war for the British........
  • George Tenet on 60 Minutes. Insane, passionate, admitting his mistakes and taking on the Bush administration. It was one of the best interviews on the show in a long time. What you think.......

COACHELLA | Day Three Is All About Rage Reunion

    rage%20reunited.jpg

  • Rage Against the Machine was clearly the most anticipated band of the weekend and they easily took "Best in Show" according to the astonishing reception they received. Zach, making his first real live appearance in about seven years, kept the political talk to minimum. He call for the end of the war in Iraq and likened Bush administration officials to Nazi war criminals, adding, "They should be tried and hung and shot.".......
  • The crowd for Rage started overtaking the mainstage area during Willie Nelson's set. While they were very respectful to Willie and Manu Chao, who seemed to win over a crowd not familiar with the music, the same could not be said for Crowded House. The 80's comeback kids played a lackluster set that only got worse when Rage's fanbase began heckling them, including tossing a bottle at Neil Finn during "Don't Dream It's Over," which was a direct hit, hitting him and knocking the microphone over. Also, playing a bunch of new songs that no one has heard yet to this audience probably wasn't the smartest move for them........
  • Also, certain Rage fans were looking to, unfortunately, recreate a Woodstock 3 atmosphere. Small bonfires were set and a couple American flags were burned. Lame.....
  • Rage Against The Machine's Setlist: Testify / Bulls on Parade / Bombtrack / Bullet in the Head / Know Your Enemy / Down Rodeo / Guerilla Radio / Renegades of Funk / Calm Like a Bomb / Sleep Now in the Fire / Wake Up / Freedom / Killing in the Name......
  • Sound problems at the outdoor theatre caused Damien Rice and Air sets to be cut short. Each artists lost about twenty minutes of stage time. Shame.......
  • The Roots played their extended-killer version of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War," which they performed at the Dylan tribute concert at Carnegie Hall last year........
  • All in all, Coachella had a well behaved audience. Only 100 drug arrests at this years festival.......
